Schools and mail
Your response rate will be greatly affected by the ways in which the mailing house relates to school administrators. If the relationship between the administrators and the mailing house is poor or only modest, the administrator may not bother to pass the mail on - and so your mail never reaches the right teacher.
School administrators are asked to handle huge amounts of direct mail every day. They often feel this is not their job, and they can resent the fact that sorting the mail takes so much time. It is therefore essential for mailing houses to consider how they relate to the school administrator and how they encourage the administrators to handle the mail.
On the front of most Hamilton House shared mailings is a newsletter to school administrators from the School of Educational Administration (S.E.A.) This newsletter covers a variety of issues from significant legal and employment issues through to innovations, and on occasion humorous articles.
Because the shared mailings are sent out in polythene packs, and because this newsletter is on the front, we believe that administrators recognise our shared mailing packs and open them first of all, because they like reading the newsletter.
Copies of the newsletter, and other activities run by the SEA are available on their web site www.admin.org.uk
Each week the SEA receives a significant number of emails from administrators commenting on the newsletter - which shows that the packs are being opened and considered day by day.
The SEA also runs the Certificate in School Administration - the prime qualification for school administrators, and campaigns actively on their behalf for better working conditions and terms of employment.
Hamilton House is very closely linked with the SEA. The SEA's course is administered by Hamilton House, and the SEA itself is sponsored by Hamilton House.
