Shared mailings are selected according the type of organisation - primary schools, colleges and so on.
However, different mailing houses have tended to select schools in different ways and this can cause some confusion.
One of the biggest problems has arisen with the notion of what makes a secondary school. Particular difficulty arose when one mailing house included in its "schools with 18 year olds" selection a range of special schools (schools for the deaf, those with learning difficulties and so on). This gave the appearance of a much bigger list - but of course many of the schools on the list were not valid to people selling items such as A level text books.
We have tried to make each of our selections explicit - but if you have any doubts or questions we would urge you to ring first. In particular we would point out that...
We have not included any special schools in our shared mailing selections. But we have included specialist schools. Specialist schools (which often call themselves colleges) teach the full national curriculum, but place a special emphasis on a particular area of work - such as ICT, sport, music etc.
